| Review |
The Review is just a brief summary of key points from all the lessons, basically, all of the
REALLY important, ABSOLUTELY MUST KNOW stuff. The review should be read by any new player, regardless
of whether they have read all the lessons or not. |
Rules and Tips
| Conduct |
Exile is a Family mud for the most part, and as such, certain things will not be tolerated. Cursing on public channels, harassment, racism, lewd or 'adult' references, and promoting unwanted sites or muds, etc.. are all prohibited, and will be met with severe penalties. We ask that you do your best to respect the other players, even if you don't like them, and never, under any circumstances, try to force someone to quit the game. If you have a legitimate problem with another player, bring it up with a god. |
| Channels |
As previously noted, cursing is not allowed on public channels. Along with cursing, spamming
(also known as repeating or 'flooding' a channel) is also prohibited, and is also a very easy
way to get everyone on the mud angry at you very quickly. Spamming a room with emotes, for instance,
may very well get you a lot of enemies, and on top of that, possibly punished by a god. Also, you should
know that the mud has been coded to automatically mute players who spam public channels. So even if a god
isn't on, you can still get the axe. Although it is not prohibited, using CAPS all the time is looked down upon, and does tend to anger other players, as it is just annoying (it draws a person's eyes to it). |
| Bugs |
Being that the mud is a computer program, inevitably there will be bugs, although exile has by
far, much less problem with this than most muds. If you encounter a bug, please use the 'bug' command
(help bug, or just type 'bug < the problem%gt '. If you do not report a bug, or more specifically,
if you take advantage of a bug, you may be punished quite harshly by the gods. |
| PK |
PK has rules which go down both roads. You can not PK in 'non-PK' zones (help PK),
but, if you go into a PK zone willingly, you have no right to complain if you do get pk'd.
The other thing to remember is how 'summon' works (help summon). If you have your summon
level high enough that someone can summon you into a PK zone, it is your fault. This is why
we highly recommend keeping your summon level off or on lpk when you are not specifically
going to be summoned, or beaconed (help beacon), into a PK zone willingly. If you think that
you are being spammed, or harassed in some way related to PK though, feel free to ask a god
to examine the situation, and if action needs to be taken, they will let you know. |
| Use the HELP FILES!! | We cannot stress this point enough. The help files are very thorough and extensive, and are there specifically to help you with most of the questions you might have. Almost every thing you can think of has a help file for it, and if it doesn't, it is probably being written. If you can not find the answer you need in a help file, then it is fully appropriate to ask for help, either on gossip, or by asking someone specifically. |
| Learn the Commands |
Much of this is covered in the lessons above, but we must stress that learning all the commands
is extremely important not only to your survival, but to having fun. Many times knowing a couple of
funny socials (help social, or just type 'social') can make everyone in a room laugh like crazy.
On top of that, knowing various commands that help you do things easier and quicker can come in handy. |
| Keep your eyes Open |
The gods can be pretty tricky, and so can the mud itself. As noted in the lessons, there are often
hidden items on corpses, and even just laying around. Also, you never know when a mob may have been
sneaking and entered the room you are in, or there might be a pile of gold on the ground. Anything
can happen for the most part, so it's good to keep your eyes open for it all. |
| Make Friends |
Survival on Exile is very tough if you don't have some people to back you up. Getting into forms,
being sociable, and especially joining a clan or tribe, are very good ways to get to know people
on the mud, make friends (and enemies, hehe), and further your experience. It is much easier to have
fun when you have 8 people together all laughing about someone spanking a troll than doing it by
yourself. (Don't Ask) |
