| Guilds |
The guilds, or classes, in Exile are quite simple to understand once you get a few small details out
of the way. The eight Guilds are: Warrior Cleric Mage Thief Ranger (hero) Monk (hero) Illusionist (hero) Nightblade (hero) The four basic guilds, warrior, cleric, mage, and thief, are all located within caymus. The directions to each of them are below: (from recall) Warrior: w, n, n, n, n, n, w, w, w, s. Guildmaster is East from here. Cleric: n, e, e, e, e, e, n, n, n, w. Guildmaster is West from here. Mage: e, s, s, s, s, s, e, e, e, n. Guildmaster is 2 Up from here. Thief: s, w, w, w, w, w, s, s, e. Guildmaster is down from here. We won't go into the hero class guilds, simply because by the time you need them, you'll know where they are anyway. Each of the guilds also has locker rooms for the people in the guild, which provides storage for extra items. That room also becomes your 'home' after you join the guild (type 'gohome' to be instantly transported to your home, from anywhere in the town of Caymus). To join a guild, you simply go to the Guildmaster for that guild, and type 'join < guild name> '. You will then be brought into that guild. * Note: when you multiclass you do the exact same thing. |
| Gaining |
To gain levels, as a citizen it will be automatic, as you may have noticed by now. Once you reach level
5 as a citizen, and then join a guild (see 'guilds' above), you will have to go to your guildmaster to
gain levels. The command for this is simply 'gain'. There are a few things though that you should know
when gaining. 1) You can 'save up' experience, and gain many levels at the same time if you wish. 2) You will gain Hit Points, Mana, and Moves when you gain. The higher your Con, the better your HP gains will be, the higher your int, the higher your mana gains will be, and the higher your dex, the better your moves gains will be. But it is very important to remember also that your prime requesite, no matter which one it is, can affect your gains. |
| Skills |
Warriors and Thieves (also known as 'melee classes') have skills which get better as they progress in levels,
and which are the main focus of those classes. When you gain a level, your skills will automatically gain
a relatively random percentage on each one. In other words, if you have 50% on sneak, and you gain a level,
you may then have anywhere from 51% to 58%. We won't go into the specific skills, as there are far too
many to cover, but there are help files for every skill, on Exile (type 'help < skill name> '). To see all of the skills you currently have, and what percentage they are at, type 'skills'. To see all of the skills you can get (or that any other class gets), type 'slist' or 'slist < class> '. |
| Spells |
Mages and Clerics (also known as 'spellcasters') have spells instead of skills. Spells are done quite differently
than skills, and as such, require a bit more thinking. When you join a spellcaster guild, you get a specific number
of 'practices'. These are credits you redeem at your guildmaster to practice your spells. This is the only way that
your spells can be practiced. The trick is to make sure you don't run out of practices at high levels, because then
you may have to spend tokens to learn more spells. It takes from 9 to 11 practices to completely learn a spell. To
practice a spell, go to your guildmaster, and type prac. You will be shown a list of the spells you can practice, as
well as how many 'practices' you have left. Then decide what spell you want to practice, and type 'practice < spell
name> >' until you reach the level of expertise in that spell that you wish to get to. (The highest is superb).
Once you have perfected a spell, you cannot spend further practices on it, so if you know you want to completely
learn a spell, there's no harm in just typing, as an example, prac magic missile a bunch of times until it says that
you have finished learning that spell. Similar to skills, if you want to see a list of all the spells that you know, type 'spells'. If you wish to see all of the spells you can learn (or that other classes get), type 'slist' or 'slist < class> '. |
