Lesson Four

*** Note:For information about multiple items of the same type (having 3 of the same weapon in your inventory for example), please go to the lesson review

Item and Equipment Commands pt. 1 There are a number of commands which allow you to use, get, and wear equipment and items. They are listed below (remember, for more extensive help on any of these commands, use the help files):
Wear: the 'wear' command is used whenever you want to wear any piece of equipment. To use it, simpy type 'wear < item name> '. Note: if you can not wear a specific item, the mud will tell you, but it will also attempt to switch that piece of eq with the any that you might be wearing in that slot (Example: If you are wearing some sleeves, and you try to wear some arm plates that are too high level for you, the mud will still automatically make you remove your sleeves to try and put on the arm plates.).
Wield: the 'wield' command works exactly like the 'wear' command, except it is for weapons only.
Hold: the 'hold' command works exactly like the 'wear' command, but it is specifically to put an item in your 'hold' eq slot.
Get: the 'get' command is used to get items from, well, anything. To pick up an item, get it from a bag, etc. To use the 'get' command, type 'get < item name> < container (if there is one)> '. So if you wanted to pick up a sword from off the ground, you would type 'get sword'. If you wanted to get a sword from your back pack, you would type 'get sword back'.
Put: the 'put' command is used to put items in containers. To do so, type 'put < item name> < container> '. In order to use the 'put' command, you must have the item you are 'putting' in your inventory, and the container must be in the same room as you. (Example: 'put sword back' would put a sword that is in your inventory, into a back pack that is in your inventory.)
Give: the 'give' command works between any two players and/or mobiles. To give an item, type 'give < item> < person or mob>'. To give gold or tokens, type 'give < amount> gold/tokens < person> '.

Item and Equipment Commands pt. 2 Using items, such as potions, scrolls, and wands, requires some more commands, all listed below (as previously noted though, if you want more detailed explanations, use the help files):
Potions: to use a potion, you must have the potion in your inventory, and then use the 'quaff' command. Type 'quaff < potion name>' or just 'quaff potion' if there is only one in your inventory. Once you quaff a potion, it is completely used and disappears.
Scrolls: to use a scroll, you must have the scroll in your inventory, and then use the 'recite' command. Type 'recite < scroll name>'. Note that, scrolls may have multiple spell affects on them (Example, a scroll of protection casts bless, armor, and protection from evil).
Wands (and anything that works as a wand): wands are quite simple, you simply 'use' them, and must be holding the wand. Unfortunately, if the wand is too high level, you won't be able to use it. Type 'use < wand name> '. Some Examples:
- to use a blue orb: first, hold the orb (type 'hold orb'), then use the orb (type 'use orb').
- to use a wand of invisibility: first, hold the wand (type 'hold wand'), then use the wand, and choose a target if you wish to (type 'use wand < target> ').
Please note that, if you try to use a scroll or wand, and it fails, it will do damage to you, and that damage can be fatal if your hit points are low enough.

Item and Equipment Commands pt. 3 The last bit of commands we will cover are buying and selling items. The commands are listed below (but remember, as previously noted, for more detailed explanations, check the help files):
Buying items: When you are in a store, if you type 'list', you will be given a list of all items available at that shop, as well as their price, minimum level to use/wear, and their list 'number'. To buy an item, you can either type 'buy < item name> or buy < item number>. Using the item number is mostly helpful when there is more than one item with a similar name.
Selling items: In order to sell an item, you must find a shop that: a) will buy that type of item, and b) is buying items at all. Once you have done that, and have the item in your inventory, just type 'sell < item name>'. The shopkeeper will take the item from you, and give you the value of the item in gold.

Relics and Depictions Relics and Depictions are both extremely rare, and extemely helpful, items, which are hidden on random mobs every time the game reboots (note: blue orbs and gems of true seeing are also items randomly hidden on mobs, but they can load on any mob any time a zone reloads a mob.). If you find a relic or depiction, there are certain steps, detailed below, to follow in order to make use of them.
Relics: When you first find a relic, it will be called 'an ancient relic of unkown origin'. This is because it has not been identified by the curator. In order to identify a relic, you must go to the curator. From recall, go n, e, e, e, e, e, e, s, w, w. The curator will be there, as well as a sign. If you look at the sign, you will be shown a list of all of the different kinds of relics that can be found. At this point, two thins can happen. One is if you have at least 3 tokens, you can identify the relic. To do so you must use the 'appraise' command. By appraising a relic, you are asking the curator to identify the relic, and have him make an offer of how many tokens he will pay for it. After the curator makes an offer for your relic, you can then either 'accept' or 'reject'. If you accept, the curator will give you the number of tokens he stated, and take the relic, telling you what it was. If you reject, one of two things can happen.
1) The curator will make a new offer on the relic
2) The curator will not be willing to go any higher, force you to pay 3 tokens for identifying the relic, and tell you what it is.
If you do not have at least 3 tokens when you try to appraise a relic, the curator will automatically take the relic, and give you whatever amount of tokens he feels like giving you.

Depictions work much differently. There are exactly 7 depictions when the mud reboots, and the entire structure to how they work is far too detailed to go into here. For more information on depictions, type 'help depic' while on Exile. The help file for depictions has all of the information you will need. (after reading the help file, you may want to continue below).
The affects of Mark levels (given by turning in the depictions), are as follows (Note, all affects are totally permanent):
Mark LevelAffect
1+49 Moves
2+49 Mana
3-7 Armor Class
4-7 Save vs. Spells
5+7 Hitroll
6+7 Damroll
7+49 Hit Points
