Lesson 7
Gauntlet The gauntlet is, in essence, a testing grounds for players to see just how good they are, and to get some rewards from it too. The gauntlet is located, from recall, w, w, w, n. From there, you open the curtain, and go north. You will then either be transported into the gauntlet, or you will have to wait for someone else to finish (or die). The gauntlet itself is made up of 52 levels, split into four sections.
Clubs: Levels 1-13
Diamonds: Levels 14-26
Hearts: Levels 27-39
Spades: Levels 40-52
When you enter the gauntlet, you are taken to the section which corresponds with your current level. Example: a level 25 thief would go in the Diamonds section, and a level 121/39 would go in the Spades section. You are also given a potion of swirling shapes and colors, to allow you to recall out of the gauntlet if you finish it, or wish to leave it early. If you die in the reboot, you don't actually die, you are simply taken to the hospital in Caymus. The other important thing to know is you can only go in the gauntlet once per reboot. Once you die, or recall out, you can't go back in til the game reboots.

Quests: Commands There are a variety of commands which do specific things for quests. First and foremost, the quest channel is a channel reserved for those people who are in a quest, but, everyone on the mud can see the quest channel. The other commands are questjoin, questquit, questscore, and queststat, and are detailed below:
Questjoin: To join a quest, you type 'questjoin'. If you are unable to join the quest, the overseer will tell you when you try to join.
Questquit: To quit a quest, you type 'questquit'. Please note: in most quests, once you have quit, you can no longer rejoin the quest.
Questscore: Questscore allows you to see who is winning in a quest, and shows a different readout for each type of quest.
Queststat: Queststat shows you what is allowed and what isn't, what level you have to be, and how much the reward is for the current quest.

Quests: PK and KOM Quests are events set up by the gods, either just for fun, or to test players, or both (usually both, heh). There are many kinds of quests, but right now we will talk about PK and KoM quests.
Both PK and KoM share the same basic structure, any number of players can join the quest, and you have to defeat opponents. The difference between PK and KoM is that, in a pk quest, you can keep rejoining until the time limit is up, killing and being killed repeatedly for what sometimes seems like hours (fun fun fun). In a KoM (King of the Mountain) quest, it is single elimination. Last man standing wins, also, ganging up or team killing a person in KoM is looked down upon.

Quests: Race and Special Race quests are another type of quest, where a mob, called 'the joker', transports to a random spot, anywhere on the main continent of exile. He then announces where he is at, and everyone in the quest races to find him. Once you find him, you have to 'tag' him (type 'tag joker'). Race quests tend to be fast paced and are one of the best ways to learn the mud (since you are running around looking through areas for the joker).
There are also special quests once in a while, such as trivia, or treasure hunts. These are usually done without the actual quest setup (so no quest commands or quest channel for most of these), and are also usually run directly by a god, who decides on the prize himself.
